SEALFIT Part 6

Leave your tights, weightlifting shoes and iPods at the door. In this camp, your name doesn’t go on the whiteboard. It goes on your plain white T-shirt.

This is SEALFIT’s Kokoro Camp.

On the line to accept that challenge are CrossFitters including Mikko Salo, Kristan Clever, Rob Orlando, Tommy Hackenbruck, Caity Henniger, Jimi Letchford and Greg Amundson.

In Part 6, the athletes are back on the beach for team WODs. This is only the 12th hour of camp, and the work doesn’t stop—even as night sets in. The first WOD consists of stair runs and memorization, with penalties for inaccurate recall. Another begins in the surf, then focuses on the athletes working together as a team to offer up an acceptable workout to their drill sergeant. Finally, the athletes take on the CrossFit WOD Chelsea.

“Acting as individuals, you’ll always have a hard time. So as you jell as a team, this will become much, much easier,” one of the instructors says.

“You’re learning kind of what your limitations are, and you find out that you can push yourself much farther than you thought possible,” says instructor Tony Ducci. “Hopefully, they’re going to learn that this is about finding out about yourself mentally more than physically.”

After another long beach run in the middle of the night, Kristan Clever must make a tough decision about the severe pain she is experiencing.
